Real
REAL STANDS FOR STREET‑ROOTED SKATEBOARDING LED BY SKATERS THEMSELVES.
Real Skateboards was founded in 1991 in San Francisco by former Powell‑Peralta team riders Jim Thiebaud and Tommy Guerrero, supported by skate industry pioneers Fausto Vitello and Eric Swenson as part of Deluxe Distribution.
Born out of frustration with the lack of skater input in mainstream brands, Real was established to put skateboarders’ perspectives at its core. Early operations were grassroots - pressing only around 300 decks per graphic - and the brand quickly gained recognition for its raw, authentic aesthetic and influential video releases such as “The Real Video” (1993) and “Non‑Fiction” (1997)
