Unity

Unity Skateboards began as a Queer skateboarding collective founded by artist Jeffrey Cheung in Oakland, California. It evolved from Unity Press and zine projects into a platform that hand‑paints decks, organizes meet‑ups, and supports queer community visibility through creative outreach. The initiative launched in 2017, building on Cheung and Gabriel Ramirez’s earlier collaboration under the Unity name.

What started as small give‑away events quickly grew into regular queer skate days, art shows, and board distribution. Unity decks feature inclusive, body‑positive imagery and appear in cultural exhibitions such as Unity Through Skateboarding at SFMOMA. Unity operates as both a creative outlet and safe gathering space rather than a traditional company, aiming to empower marginalized skaters through authenticity.
